The College of Science and Engineering is offering ten scholarships worth £10,000 each towards tuition fees for academically excellent students wishing to study an Undergraduate or Postgraduate Taught programme within the College’s programme portfolio. The aim of this module is to further develop student understanding of IS Security. The main focus of this module will be to explore key themes, trends and issues in cyber-security, policing and governance of the internet and business vulnerabilities.

This course module will help you develop your knowledge and understanding of advanced digital systems design. The course will engage you imaginatively in the process of learning through creative hands-on group and individual project based activities, enabling you to develop your independent critical thinking and judgement. This module will introduce technical students to programming and testing concepts. Students will develop an understanding of the general principles of how programs and projects are delivered within the IT services industry and the application of the concepts of testing and programming.

This module provides the opportunity for students to work in industry as a full stack developer through the addition of server side programming. The module puts into practice the client-server model to facilitate the design and development of a web based solution to meet a problem based scenario. The Computing Research Association’s Committee on Widening Participation in Computing Research (CRA-WP) is one of CISE’s Broadening Participation in Computing Alliances. CRA-WP aims to widen participation and improve access, opportunities, and positive experiences of individuals from groups underrepresented in computing.

Computers Systems

For students who are from backgrounds or personal circumstances that mean they are generally less likely to go to university, you may be eligible for an alternative lower offer. In this module you will develop an understanding of modern techniques used in company management to tackle the challenges of the business sector. You will consider the role of codes of practice and industry standards, and examine relevant legal requirements governing engineering activities. This module introduces the full and holistic life cycle analysis in relation to electronic products and components, their environmental impact and sustainability.

The duration of the degree is dependent on the number of modules you study and successfully completed each year. Each year, you can choose undertake a minimum of three modules and a maximum of six modules. This choice aim to enhance flexibility and empowers you to complete the course in as little as three years or to choose a slower track lasting four, five or even six years.

The module covers introduction to embedded systems, number systems, boolean algebra, logic gates, logic expressions, combinational logic, A/D and D/A converters, computer systems and architectures. The content is delivered as a combination of lectures, tutorials and laboratory sessions that provide students with a fundamental understanding of embedded systems and their applications. The module extends the knowledge acquired in digital systems with advanced topics in the emergent area of FPGA based system on chip design.

The module also explores the differences between coding for a desktop computer and a mobile device together with the creation of apps that operate in a multi-tiered and distributed environment. Students will develop the skills to implement robust and secure database and mobile applications. International Baccalaureate Career

Modelling dynamical systems from first principles via Newton’s, Kirchoff’s or other known physical laws is often challenging and costly, requiring substantial expertise. An alternative is offered through ‘system identification’ that takes observations of inputs and outputs from physical systems and infers or estimates a dynamical model directly. Various concepts related to space environment are explored including, sun, solar wind, solar cycles, heliosphere, ionosphere, magnetosphere, magnetic storms, substorms and geomagnetic indices. The module explains space weather phenomena and concepts including the effects of ionising radiation, cosmic rays, and solar energetic particle events on spacecraft systems and astronauts. The module considers ground induced current and its effect on the pipelines, power grid and transformers.
